Squared front tyre

Does having a squared off front tire make the front of the bike wobble much more when going over bumps?


I'm not sure if it in my head since i had my first big scary 110 wobble the other day but the front seems to be shaking much worse than it used to on both corners and straights.

I'm getting the tyre changed later on in the week so I'm guessing this will sort it.

Its unusual to have a ‘squared off’ front tyre, the tread is just normally angled due to braking. Also the wear is normally just either side of centre (again due to the tyre being squished under breaking). This is unless you spend all your life on the motorway and squaring of the front is possible

Anyhow, back to your initial question … any loss of profile with the front or rear tyre can cause handling characteristics like you have mentioned. If the tyre is to be replaced anyhow, then put no more thought into it

I'll second that.

I usually go through tyres on a ratio of 2:1 Back usually squares off well before the front. And when the front goes, for the sake of 70 quid more or less, you're best changing it anyway.

Yep it'll wobble..

only had my SV for 3 weeks, front tyre was worn. (sides more than centre)
changed it on Sat, not been on road bikes for a few years, so didn`t know what to expect but was told by a mate it would really change the handling.
I was so chuffed
it is a much better handling bike, feels much more planted on bends, less inclined to be effected by road conditions, quicker but safer.
won`t wear the next one down so far.

where tyres are concerned I would always - always get round ones..

just put the new tires on and what a difference, i'm going to have to readjust my riding style, i didn't realise how slow the turn in had become on the old front. I think i will changing my front more regually in the future.

Still having a few wobels though, can a ageing original shock (20k) be causing the front to move more?

Yes my old Bandit was previously owned by someone that did 90% of its miles on the motorway and it would get well scary on ruts or even on the white lines and things between lanes when filtering. Both tyres were well within the legal tread but had I kept the bike more than a fortnight they would definitely have been changed.
