Default Taking a lid as hand luggage

Evening all,

Next Friday I'll be flying to Australia to visit my parents for a month (haven't seen them for 2 years ) and I'll be using my dad's bike quite a lot over there so wanted to take my lid on the plane as hand luggage. Does anyone know if I'm allowed to do this as the info on the airlines' website is a little sketchy, and I don't want to put my Arai in the baggage hold for obvious reasons.

Cheers,

Paul

As far as I know you'd be fine.

However, I'd be very cautious about taking it at all.

If the folks in Customs at either end of the flight there, or back, think that you're using it to hide drugs, well, it aint pretty.

Out comes the hammer, and no, they don't have to buy you a new lid!

I think they would Xray it rather than hammer it.

Before all the troubles I was allowed my helmet as hand luggage on a small plane when everyone else had to put their laptops etc. in the hold. Apparently they recognise how important it is for you to know what happens to it.

I have been allowed no bother. I cant see why the new regs would change that but then again you never know. They also seem to waive the one item hand luggage rule with lids too.

Perhaps they consider it to be a hat, not luggage.

Have taken mine on the plane about 4 times last year with not one problem. Just make sure you buy a decent helmet bag to keep it in.

It goes through the xray machine fine. Dont keep anything else in your lid though.

Also strictly its one hand luggage per person. So when you get to the check in desk dont carry a large rucksack and your helmet bag. I always put the lid on the floor in front of the desk so they dont see it. Never had a problem with the gate staff..i assume it may only be the check in desk peeps that might suggest it goes into the hold...so out of sight out of mind.

Good point! I'm taking my Kriega backpack on the plane as well which isn't too big.

Cheers for the replies guys, now, where's my passport?
