Hi,
I asked for a flexi-time spreadsheet a few weeks ago to which I had a few replies. The sheet I intend to use is excellent apart from it will only allow me to enter finish times between 4pm and 6pm, how do I remove this restriction on the cell? Thanks |

you cant, whoever created the sheet locked it so that users cant tamper or screw it up, the sheet will be protected and youd need the admin password to get into it, which your not going to be able to get im afraid.
im pretty sure that correct, however if anyone knows different, i have a similar problem using clients flexi entry systems, as a contractor im not as strictly tied to the clients working hours, but if i try to enter anything out of the order the system cant take it, bit f a pain, but if these sheets werent protected, it would spent there day fixing things helpfully amended by the fiddlers and diddlers |

It doesnt seem to be protected at all apart from this annoying pop-up box saying I have to enter a time between 4pm & 6pm. Anyone know how to get excel to display a negitave time? I've created my own spreadsheet apart from I cant get it to display a negative time (the sheet I've been copying seems to dsiplay it OK)

I'm guessing the pop up box is due to the original author having set up Data Vaildation.
Select the cell that's causing the problem Go to the Data Menu and select Validation. In there you should see the rules that excel is using to see if you have valid data. To turn it off, select Any Value. HTH |

I love Data Validation - especially when you tell someone to only input data between specific values, and they then try and input something else. Pepole who try that with my spreadsheets usually get a rude warning message displayed on their screen ![]() [/nerd mode]

The more I use excel the more crap I think it is.
For example. At work I have designed a spreadsheet that allows me to retrieve all the information that I want (or more importantly anyone else would want). Due to the amount of information on this spreadsheet and trying to keep it tidy and smaller, I have created a lot of comments that will pop up when you run the curser over the box. Why the bloody hell do these comment boxes decided to resize themselves? And even worse than that, why when editing them do they decided to jump miles away from the friggin cell that you have created it in? So so stupid. |

well, thats a surprise it works.........
i used to use excel a lot , i never even knew validation existed, ive changed my warning messages now to, "get out of bed arlier fool!!!!" and "boss gone home? lets surf !!!!" just have to remember not to give the sheet to any permanent staff, doubt theyll see the funny side. |
