Nylon, made by Me

Here's what I got up to yesterday in the chem lab. Made some nylon very impressed to get this amount!

I only had about 0.03 moles of either reagent (thats 2.2 grams of hexamethylene diamine and 3 ml of sebacoyl chloride) so alot came from it!

Yea, it was kinda geeky for me to post this - but I was dead proud! Shame I didnt get any pictures from my Inorganic Chemistry labs, they where good fun

I also made some polyesters, but no pics of those, they where just transparent lumps in the bottom of the test tube (lad techie wasnt best pleased when I told him it didnt disolve in anything and could he suggest a way to get it out..)

My Dad was part of the team that worked out how to dye nylon (and other man made fibres) black. They had real trouble with that in the 60!
