So I am leaking coolant out of the right side of my motor just above the oil window. I am planning on taking it by the shop today around 4 EST, but I wanted to get some input from here first. My hope is that it is nothing but a gasket that is letting the coolant leak, but my fear is that the coolant is mixing with my oil and I have a bad O-ring in my waterpump. Are there any tell-tail signs I should look for before I take it to the shop? My oil does not appear to be bubbly but, it is hard to tell. How bubbly would it be if I did have coolant in my oil?

Coolant in the oil will make the oil appear milky. Depending on how dirty your oil is, somewhere between a darkish chocolate milk and coffee with cream.

Water in the oil can get driven off and leave a creamy or mayonnaise-like gunk in the filler cap. It can happen a little even without a leak if you do short journeys where the engine and oil doesn't warm up properly.

Ok, if it's just coolant that you can see, then I would check the drain bolt on the side of the water pump housing to see if it's a little loose and the jubilee clip attaching the pipe to the housing as they leak occassionally, finally check the pipe itself to see if it is damaged in any way.

I checked the drain plug and it appeared to be tight, but it was also stripped so I couldn't tighten it if it were a little loose. I checked the pipe and it is brand new and secured properly. I dropped it off at the shop and they seemed to think it was the gasket between the water pump cover and the engine. Hopefully, that and a new drain plug will fix it right up otherwise it is the mechanical seal inside the waterpump.
