Default sloppy front brakes - sometimes?

I've got the stock front brakes with Goodridge lines (pair with double banjo at the top), have done for years, but now they are staring to annoy me. I replaced the caliper seals (all cleaned up, and not for the first time) and eventually the master cylinder kit too, bled and bled like a stuck pig. Have done brakes for years and never had this much trouble. Sometimes there isn't much play in the front brake lever, sometimes there's loads, seems to be the pistons sucking back into the calipers, but I don't seem to be able to stop it, and it's not consistent either. Think I'm up to about 25k miles or so. Anyone able to shed any light on this?
