Default Northern oik lost in space!

Hello nice Essex peeps, I need your assistance based on your local knowledge of the area.

Not knowing it at all or distances between anywhere, can anyone suggest nice destinations,(possibly with hotels) within say 1 hour of the Epping Forrest area? Epping would be from where any trip would commence.

What I have in mind are the kind of places it would be nice to spend a day or two with a "nice" friend. Obviously locations outside of the Essex boundary can definitely be considered.

Many thanks.

P.s. This post is based with the upmost seriousness and would appreciate any reply being in similar vein.

Knowing you to be totally lacking in moral fibre. I can only surmise that your intentions are dishonourable. Therefore taking any "special friend" to Essex is coals to Newcastle.

Am I to take it that your "special friend" is the delightful Miss Jessop and you have finally managed to woo her away from the amorous intentions behind Mr Boc's gleaming eye (The real one, not the glass one). If this is not the case, I hope you are not bringing one of those lady boys you shacked up with in Thailand last year back with you.

Ah it would appear that the all seeing radar of young Tim was not to be thwarted by the elopement of myself and the sultry Camilla. We thought Essex a well chosen destination due to it's anonimity and remoteness!

But I stll am open to suggestions if anyone can help? Yes the requirements are due to err hum a lady friend.

Are you sure you are talking about Essex?

I guess it depends upon what your ladyfriend appreciates......

Cochester is a very fine town (and the oldest in Britain), and it has a zoo and a castle!!!
You've got Sudbury, Saffron Walden, Thaxted. Loads a villages with great pubs.

If you're on the bike then I'd reccomend the Castle Headingham to Sudbury road for a jolly.

It's too cold at the moment to go punting in Cambridge, but there is a huge John Lewis store that's just opened (if you and she are into that sort of thing)

Tell us what you'd think she'd like and us Loungers will try and help

Thx for the input so far guys. It really is very helpfull as I really have no knowledge at all of the area. I suppose it would help if I placed the name of where in Essex she lives but I get the idea it is quite a small place and so I feel reluctant to place it on the open forum.

I think in truth we would enjoy any kind of place, after all it is more about the quality time together than anything else.

Also as my first visit over is likely to be within the next 2 to 4 weeks and me being a wimp as far as the cold goes these days,I will likely be using a car.

Cheers once again.

Flatford Mill and around Dedham, or is that too far? Very pretty, Constable country, quite romantic. At this time of year a short let cottage around there should be available and the kind of thing I would go for, if I were up to this kind of thing

Save that for your next trip (spring or summer), absolutely beautiful area AND you'll be able to show off your prowess by taking the oars of a rowing boat!!
