Default New bike

Well, new to me

Just picked up the bike in my sig - a 2002 CBR600F. It's done 37k miles but sounds as smooth as any bike I've heard, so I'm pleased also it's a bit tatty but mostly just needs a clean/polish/some stickers replacing and I'm sorted!

I've only done about 4 miles on it, but what it's interesting comparing it to the GSX-R. For a start, it feels very sluggish - twist the throttle and it accelerates, but very smoothly, I think it's deceptively fast. The GSX-R used to have a sweet "pull-your-face-off" part of its powerband above 8000rpm, this just...accelerates.

Also noticed the clutch is bloody heavy, but it's slightly bent from a staionary drop by previous owner, so it's slightly bent and might be sticking because of that.

The gear change is very quiet! It goes in smoothly enough when I go from neutral to 1st, but after that the changes are silent - it goes into gear without a sound! I guess that's good, since it still goes into gear perfectly, but...it's strange!

The engine sounds very smooth and refined when at a standstill, unlike the GSX-R which would occasionally give a little rattle or something

I think it'll be a good commuter, but I pretty much definitely have to get another sports bike of some kind in March - miss it too much!

I very nearly got a CBR600F as I needed to get a cheaper bike.. They have a very good rep and should do you well mate!

I'm hoping to get a new bike next spring aswell.. My plan is to get a 2007 CBR600RR when the 2008 model comes out so the price will be very negotiable!

Let us know what you think of the CBR when you have done a few miles.. Any pics?

Happy new bike!

Nothing on the GSX-R, still trying with the tracker company, I believe I have a case so may be going to court, but at the moment I thik they are trying to string it along and hope I go away - I'll soon show them!

It doesn't "feel" very sporty - the engine is as above, it feels so relaxed. Also the riding position is I think better than the SVS was (i.e. more upright).

I got it from a friend of a friend (no, not dodgy lol - he's sold a lot of bikes to people my friend knows). He works in motorcycle recovery and I believe he buys the bikes from people who would otherwise trade them in, pays them slightly more, and then adds a tiny bit on again. He doesn't add much because he wants to turn over the bikes quickly, also it's not his main business so he doesn't need to make a living from it.

I paid £2100 which sounds a bargain from looking around! Although one thing that's annoying is that it has history but the previous owner still has it - trying to get it though, because it would obviously be useful at resale, etc. I see most 2002 CBRs going for over £3000, some well over, hence I think it was a good deal

No pics as yet - and not for a while as I'm not actually bringing it to mine until I move to the place with the garage (1st Oct), or until I am able to use my friend's garage (hopefully Saturday). It's in the navy blue with "bits" of silver on it, looks quite nice I think.

Hehe, cheers. Need to register to view though, which I will do later (cba right now). What year CBR do you have? Do they all have the "non-positive" gear change like that? I am a bit reluctant to put it like that, because it does seem to change gear perfectly fine, i just get no "feel" that it's doing it...

Also my clutch cable seems to be too long (it pokes up in front of the speedo!) - what's that all about? Are these CBR, or "me" problems?

Owners Manuals & service books etc.

I'd love a CBR600F as a second bike, they are quick, cheap, and good for 2 - up riding. Have you got any pictures?

I would have loved to have one as a first bike, but insurance would have been too much. And possibly not as good as the SV restricted
