Default 650K3 Running hot!!

Hi,

My SV650k3 is behaving a tad strangely after i changed the engine a couple of months back. Basically, while the bike is running the temprature obviously rises as you'd expect, though it now continue's to rise into the 90 degree zone. Ok, not too strange so far, but it then slowly reduces down to the low 80's, then back up into the low 90's, then down and so on, even while running at a constant speed, i.e. 60/70mph. I read the manual and the fan doesn't actually kick in till 98 degree's, so it's not that kicking in/out .
The coolant is fresh, topped up and i've got rid of any air in the system as far as i can tell. There are no FI light's appearing on the dash telling me there's a sensor prob, though as it's a bit odd im not convinced.
I'd like to get this sorted as i'm a bit concerned about engine life and the gearbox is really stiff especially trying to find neutral. Has anyone come across this before on this or any other bike.
Thanks for your help!!

Mark

This is normal mate, the cooland flows round in cycles as far as I am led to believe.

Yeah, I have seen a few posts like this pop up on the forums and the general consensus everytime is that its fairly normal behaviour.

Sounds like its all ok - as long as the gauge is working, and isnt showing the bike to be running at 120 deg.C, then its all good.

My temp gauge often plays at being the rev counter; with each gear change (going up through the gears) the needle dips from 80 to 40 then back up

Mind you, its wired up shoddy. Its not even the original gauge. Did 1999 curvys even come fitted with a temp gauge?!

hi mate, thanks, but my old engine temp never went over 70 with no such up and down readings.
surely this will cause premature damage and be down on power at these temp's??? looking like i'll be out again in the minitwins next season and could really do without the hassle i had this year

70 or below is not normal running temps and would mean your oil is not at optimum temps to be efficient and work properly, this is maybe why you have had to change the engine already.

Fluctuation between 80 - 90 is fine.

I'll see you there then bud. Take it ur moving up to clubman? Honestly it probably just one of those things you have never noticed before. Mine on warm up will slowly rise to about 85, then drop to 78, then rise to about 88 MAX!! Then just go through this cycle about once every minute. Trust me its normal and power out puts dont vary too much in the peak temp range. Only if you go drasticly lower or higher... i.e. 60'C or 100'C

That'll be the thermostat opening (when too hot) and closing (too cool) the radiator loop.

pear-fect-ly normal
