Depends on the K+N, if it flows better than standard, you need to rejet.

Genuine mikuni jets are way cheaper than dynojet kits.

I have seen a marked improvemnet in power, with the K&N, plus a bark when you open it up, is there anywhere i can get a list of the jets required or a good set up?

Bark yes, power no as it is only a slip on and a filter. The K&N (SU-6599) filter flows better than OEM but not greatly.

How does the bike run, is it smooth?

Do you have a restricted bike (33bhp)?

Chris is right about the Mikuni jets, I personally use and rate Dyno Jet but I have a good source and I tend to work on a little more tuned engines now a days.

The bike is smooth throughout acceleration, but can pop and fart on decelartion, and sometimes when idling, i get a tiny bang of misfire...

I always wanted a sv650 and have been off bikes for 8 years, and was previously riding 600 cbr's 4 cylinder, so the v twin experience is new to me, but i am so taken with this bike, and its supposed to be a pass your test bike... my friends cbr 600 1999 cant catch me on accleration out of a corner..!!

and no its not restricted.

Nothing to worry about there really.

Good choice, they are lovely bikes whether standard or modifed. Welcome to the site, and of course to the SV.

A little bit of tuning will sort that out...

Just checking, restricted SV's don't like anything other than the OEM filter.

The easiest way to make a bike feel more powerful is to mess up the power curve- I was always convinced mine was an animal back when I had the renegade airkit and full system, because it pulled so hard at about 7000rpm. Eventually I put it on the dyno, and it turned out that the midrange was really weak. The peak was OK- more or less stock. But by contrast with the midrange it felt hugely powerful, because the power curve was so steep as it pulled out of the dead spot.

So, this in mind, I reckon you have no extra power- K&N and end can even when tuned perfectly give negligible benefits. But I think you're possible leaned out enough to weaken the mids (that's what suffers first generally).

Dyno set-up. You don't necessarily need a Dynojet kit, it's not like a big band-aid that just cures everything, but some of the bits can help if the tuner can't sort it just by changing jets and fiddling with needles.
