Following on from me getting a few freebies I need to remove things from my bike.
However, whoever put the various screws in must have been taking a day off from pumping iron cos I can't budge the buggers. Also, I don't want to ferk up the cross heads. Any tips of how to remove excessively tight screws without damaging them ??? |

a great big torque wrench use a hammer to hit the screw a couple of times (not excessively hard though) try to tighten it slightly, then undo it. |

24" breaker bar + halford pro screwdriver bits for socket sets
have yet to meet a nut or bolt it couldn't undo with even a feather touch...

All sorted now.
I got the biggest cross head screwdriver I could, hammerred it in and used a spanner to turn a wierd handle thing I had laying around. Managed to fit my FREE R&G tail tidy and bar sliders today. |

Thats similar to my method Furry , I have a set of pin punches and select one to fit the size of the head of the screw/bolt intended for being undone . Fit it over the top and a short sharp whack with a medium sized hammer , this shocks the thread a little and loosens off any corrosion between the steel thread and the Ally hole . Had to do this quite a lot on my apprenticeship with substantial sized threads right down to BA sized threads ....... worked a charm every time .
There is no need to take a running shot with the hammer , it`s the "Short Sharp Shock" , just a bit harder than a tap that does the good work . |
