Default Breaking in your engine?

I know this gets debated a lot but is it better to take it easy and follow the break in procedure or is it better to thrash the life out of it for the first 20 miles or so, i hear the piston rings seal better? Picking up my new GSXR600 next Saturday so i don't want to mess her up.

I don't know about thrashing it from the start but I understand you should vary the riding as the metal wants different types of heat cycles, too cautious is almost as bad as too revvy

just comming to the end of the 1000 mile run in on the ZX, for the first couple of hundered miles it was done by the book. after that it was opened up a bit.

On the first service i was told its a bit tight still compared to others so i might want to give it some more revs!!!

so i have been riding it like you wold normally ride a 600, i.e keep it on the boil, and redlined it in 3rd and 4th today with out thinking, it was fun. god knows what speed i was doing but hey. It runs smoothley and appears to have no problems at all.

Have a look here:

Few varying opinions, but I'd take a look at embee's posts. He has worked in engine design/manufacture for a long time and knows his stuff. I followed his opinion (which is pretty much a more detailed view of the manufacturers recommendations) and had absolutely no problems at all. The bike never little to no oil whatsoever.
