Default Dealer trade-in offer for 1 year old SV

I bought a brand new SV650S last March. This year I'm getting a K8 Gixer in March. I've been offered £2700 for the SV. I've clocked up 11000 miles, but apart from that the bikes okay (bodywork etc in good condition and regularly serviced etc.) I have modified the bike somewhat (but I'll return it to standard.) Mods are things like heated grips, undertay, tail tidy etc. I feel disapppointed by the amount of depreciation. What do you folks think?

Thats the price of buying new.Unless you keep a new bike for a good few years you will always lose out heavily. Why not keep it another year,or buy your next bike used so you can take advantage of someone elses loss?

get a 6month old gixer that someone else has run in, this will help soften the blow.

Same happened with mine, gutting really.

I bet you can get a new sv650s for 4k now, and the dealer needs to make a profit on your bike so the prices of 2nd hand bikes are getting pushed down.

I've decided to hang on to the bike to get my moneys worth. I can't afford to trade up to anything other than a bike 5 years older, and I don't fancy that.

Fortunately the SV is pretty competent and I still have a lot to learn from it. Might need suspension upgrades though.

That's not bad. My dealer offered me ?3000 on a six month old cruiser that cost ?5,500.

I ended up selling privately then got my sv for ?4 OTR with 0% finance.

Oh, and once we've got our own place the mrs says I can start building a kit car...
That'll take a while, but something In the garage with an R1 engine should satisfy the thirst!

My 18 month okd K6 650S with 12k on the clock.

Getting ?3275 for it as an insurance write-off.

Add the GAP insurance and I am getting book value back :P

He's telling you he doesn't want it. Stick it in the for sale section and don't take a penny less than 3,250.

Partly it's the miles on the clock that makes a difference. Allegedly the average milage for a bike is about 4K per year. I did 10K in 7 months on my SV although the price I paid for it was good but still lost a fair bit. It's the price we pay for the fun of bikes I'm afraid.
