Before I went on a little trip round the UK, I had the bike serviced, it only needed a 4k service but they bled the front brake and balanced the carbs too. However, after getting the bike back, the front brake was if anything, spongier than before. The bike now has slight surges at 3-4kprm, and the throttle has way too much play for my liking. I got it done at Robinson's Foundry, who are often very busy.
Regarding the surges, I have been running the bike quite deep into reserve at the moment, so it might be the crappy fuel running through. However, the brake issue and the throttle issue are slightly annoying, and I was wondering what you guys think I should do about it; do I call them up and bitch at them? Shall I send a polite email explaining the issues? Cheers, Conrad |

tbh i wouldn't have bled the brakes unless they felt spongy(er than usual) - the surging and throttle play on mine were related, they adjusted my throttle to the manual specification but i hate it, i prefer zero slack, you can djust it using the inline adjusters on the throttle tubes but make sure the throttles close completely or you'll have problems

If it were my bike (or a friends bike more accurately, as the servicing is done myself on mine), I'd just re-do the brakes & re-adjust the throttle freeplay.
Take all of 20mins. Throttle freeplay is a subjective thing anyway, different spanner monkey's set it differently, and different riders like it differently, so that's not a real issue to complain about - so long as it's within tolerance. The brakes, if you're concerned, take it back to them to check it over. The front afterall does most of the work. As for the surging at low RPMs, it's a curvy (as they balanced carbs not TB's), so I dunno. If it was a pointy, I'd say check the TPS adjustment, but I don't know if curvy's have TPS'. |

I also prefer 0 slack, it might just be that they've done it to the manual. The brakes were quite spongey before and the throttle was perfect for me. I've now got a haynes manual but I don't think I'll be bleeding the brakes, I have virtually no mechanical knowledge and ride the bike every day. I'll give the throttle a go though.

while you're doing it upgrade to steel hoses, one of the best cost/benefit modifications you can do
