Default Licence question.

Something thats been at the back of my mind for a while now: I currently have a full bike licence (held for 5.5 years) but with 3 ponts on it (speeding). My car license is provisional as I'm just leaning to drive at the mo.
Now then, I take my car test in a months time. If I pass I get a car licence with a probationary 2 year period wherein as you all know 6 points and licence is lost. My worry is that as I already have 3 points on my licence, if I pass will that mean I will only be 3 points off losing my licence?

Any thoughts?

The 6 points in the first 2 year period is only for the first licence you hold. Therefore when you pass your car test you are not put back on the 2 years probationary period as you have held a licence for 5.5 years.

magicrat, dont forget to photocopy all your paperwork associated with your bike licence and any paperwork for your car licence. The DVLA all too often forget to add all your entitlement on your licence and YOU would have to prove them wrong! Good Luck with the driving.

pardon ... ermmm thats not what i have been told .. what i was told is that any 6 points gained within a 2 year period after passing bike/car and you loose that licence... most recent first.

so i have had a full car licence since 1988 with mc learner entitlement but only passed my bike test on august 24th 2008... if i get 6 points on my licence within 2 years be it car or bike i loose my bike licence, but still keep my car licence...

or have i been misinformed...

You have been misinformed.

Your 2 year probationary period is on your driving licence regardless of which class of vehicle you learn to drive.

Try to think as the licence as your entitlement to drive and the classes as what vehicle you are allowed to drive.

If you had your licence to drive a car for umpteen years then decide you want to do your PSV licence you wouldn't go back to probatory status you are merely adding another class.
