No Headlights

Hi guys. I've been reading the forum for a while, but had to sign up for my first post.
Last night when I was about to drive a little errind, my headlights didn't turn on. I tried switching to High Lights but no response. I have no ON/OFF for lights as I live in Denmark, so they should always be on. The funny thing is, when I pull the Pass switch, the headlights glows until release. At "Hi" setting, both "eyes" light, but at "Lo" only the high light glows.

All fuses are fine, and I've been looking trough the wiring diagram for quite some time now. As all other electronics works fine, I've located the error to be somewhere between the Hi-Lo switch and the 2nd wire coupler from the Hi-Lo(where the Lightning switch would be). But at that point my wiring diagram doesn't match the wires of the bike, so I can't really locate the actual wire in the coupler
So, any advice on what to do next?

I'm driving the '99 S-model, and I have been driving in wet conditions a couple of times in the last week.

Firstly, welcome aboard! Don't feed the animals, and watch out for Hovis - he's a few slices short...

Right, down to business, Haynes in hand...

'99 is.. X is it not? X & Y are the same diagram anyhow...and the headlight connector behind the fairing isn't shown on this diagram...

You get some glow from the Pass switch, this just basically patches into the yellow wires on the Hi/Lo switch. Check for continuity between the Pass switch & the connector (this is the orange/red wire). After the connector, it's the orange wire up to the 3rd fuse (10A inbetween 2 15A fuses).

It could be that there is a dodgy ground on the yellow wire from the Hi/Lo switch though.

The low beam lighting is done by the white wire, coming from the headlights through fuse 2 to the Hi/Lo switch, and the high beam is done with the yellow wire through fuse 1 to the same switch.

Power for the Hi/Lo switch (on this diagram - probably not on your bike) is also a yellow wire, and goes through a connector to the lights on/off switch (which you say you don't have). At that switch, the wire changes to an orange/red, then at the connector changes again to the orange ignition feed wire.

HTH. I reckon that it's going to be a faulty Hi/Lo switch that's causing it.

I don't know about either X nor Y, but I see you conclude there's no difference after all.
I will check the mentioned continuities when I get home from work. But isn't the continuity in the two spots you mention proved by the functioning passing light?

If by dodgy ground, you mean loose connection (that's what it's called in Danish anyway) I agree, besides that I figure it must be in the yellow/white wire which you mention delivers power to the Hi/Lo.

I've already taken the left instruments apart, and I've tried to make a direct connection between the Yellow/white power wire, and the yellow wire on the Hi/Lo switch. This should make the lights glow, but they don't. But a faulty switch was definately my first thought, until i discovered this.

The point where my bike differs from the diagram, is the orange/red wire where the on/off switch should be. Because it's not that color. And this wire just runs with the others backwards on the bike.

I'll take a closer look again when I get home.

Finally I got time to write back.

My assumption about the lightning switch where correct. With a multimeter I located the error to be between the Orange and the Yellow/White wire. Turned out that a wire had popped out.
