Went out for a ride this morning. Met people at 08:30 it was chilly (about 6-8'C) but dry. Bike was slipping all over the place, both front and back ends choosing to make interesting deviations from my intended route at various times.
Stopped after 30 mins and set off again about an hour later. Marginally warmer but still damp patches on the road. Bike felt a lot steadier. Carried on until about 14:00 when it was mostly dry but still chilly eventually everything settled in and the ride was great. I've not been on the bike for about 4 weeks due to illness and Christmas but I've never been one for shying away from riding in marginal weather so question is what was actually causing the problem for the first bit of the ride? 1. Cold tyres. But they would have cooled down again after the first stop. 2. Cold/slippy road. No overnight frost and mega rain over last 24 hours so most salt will have been washed away. No significant difference in air temp during the period. 3. Cold rider. Cold, aprehensive so stiff and jerky at controls 4. Something else What do you think?

Just because we had rain doesn't mean all the salt had gone. If your council are using this Molasses/salt mix muck, it's very resilient to rain. And that stuff can be slippy.
But would tend to agree with Husky. |
