Cornering...Advice

Now that I'm getting my mileage under my belt, I would like some additional advice on cornering.

My problem at the moment is I seem to be getting this a little wrong and either when turning into a junction I take it too wide thus coming close to the curb, and loosing my road position.

or I'm slowing down on the cornering causing the bike to jerk forward - then it's a rash blip on the throttle to get it going again.

Wide sweeping cornering seems to be ok, but would like a smoother line hitting the corners and coming out again.

dont let the revs drop too much, ie holding the clutch in too much.

also, i know this is sucking eggs, but brake into and acelerate out of the corner.

If you keep your head up, look where u want to go, not at the corner apex or anything else (like the ground in front of the front wheel!!) you will find that you go there!

as for lines, they arnt really that important unless you are pushing on fast, so I think other things need to be addressed first?

its just practice mate but the right gear and correct speed is a vital start, also enter the corner so you have a good view ahead and can see the maximum available of whats round the bend (positioned on a left hander by the white line close to the middle of the road ) (positioned on a right hander closer to the kerb maximizing your view )

Get your speed right going into the corner, get you hand away from the clutch and look where you want to be once you start the turn.

My issue is judging the correct speed for the corner??? how do you know what is right?...as right now it's all over the place.

I suppose practice does make perfect - so will need to be finding me many a corner to practice.

i go in 2nd/3rd on about 4/5k revs on the gixer knowing when i exit i have another 10k to fire me out the corner.

The bike wont stall, unless you are going too slowly and in too high a gear, so just stay away from the clutch unless you are changing gears

i was (still occasionally am) just like you described until i read a Ride article about cornering. Pretty much it said what's already been stated, keep to the far side of the bend and turn in later than you normally would, it gives you two things, more visability so you can judge to corner better and also you can accelerate out faster!

Like i said im still pretty gash with corners and find myself going abit slower than id like, but using that advice ive improved alot in a short amount of time.
