Default exhaust removal

I,am about to swap the standard exhaust on my 09 bike for a street extreme pipe. On the original pipe there is a chrome cover just in front of the end can thats held on with 2 allen headed bolts which i assumed i,d just need to undo but on closer inspection the bolts have a spot weld attatching them to the nut so they can,t be undone what do i need to do to remove this piece? will i need to use it again with the new pipe or do i just hack it off?

A pic would help.

Usually it was 50mm backwards from the weld that you saw through. But these new fangled ones may be different

No instructions from Street extreme?

That cover comes off and cannot be re-used if I remember correctly.

Like you I had assumed the bolts could just be undone but ended up hacksawing them off.

No...think I'm right in saying you cut the stock pipe almost in between those bolts anyway.

Will try and dig out a pic later

On my K6 I took it off and managed to put it back on again. On my K8 as you said, there are welds. I just cut it off as I wasn't bothered about putting it back on afterwards.
