Those of you who've sent your helmets off to Arai to be serviced, how long did it take for you to get them back?
Mine needs refreshing as the sidepods are getting worn and won't easily release the visor anymore. Don't have a spare so I need to plan out in advance when I send it in! |

You could buy some new sidepods (As I had to do when I snapped one of them) and replace them yourself, not a difficult job with the little tool you get...
Or, put some silicon grease stuff on the ends of the visor bits when you next change it, helps no end. |

I think it's the plastic wearing: when I lift the levers, the sidepods just bend outwards without releasing the visor. If I push the sidepods back in and slowly lift the levers, I can sometimes get the various bits to move and the visor to be released. Don't think silicon grease would help that.
How much are sidepods? Would rather keep the cost down but if that's a quicker way of going about it then I'll do it. |

I got a replacement top vent bit for mine within 3 days the last time I sent it away. It couldn't have been any quicker, well impressed.

Try this link http://replicabikehelmets.com/2009/0...rai-side-pods/
There's a video and a link to sportsbike.com for the various helmet models. I ordered a pair last Sunday £26.?? can't remember exact amount but was P&P free of charge came on Wednesday. Very easy to fit after watching the video. Good luck. |

Does the sidepod kid contain the internal bits too or is it just the cover that goes over the top?

Pop down to your local hein gericke, they should be able to service it for you, mine does, what model do you have? as not all models have removable padding

The kit I purchased was just the side pods as I managed to break one. No doubt you can get all the bits as I've seen them on Ebay but I think they have to be fitted correctly so that the visor sits back against the seals correctly. A trip to a five star dealer might be advisable.

Sounds like the baseplates need changing, Arai do advise having the lid services/cleaned every 6 months or so, as above shops like HG do 'Service Days' or pop to a race meet, the atai truck is often at those too.
Baseplates are cheap too, cost about £6 a pair (add a further £1.60 for a magnum ice lolly (for a stick to get the baseplates off) which is also a good indulgence). have a look at http://www.whyarai.co.uk/advice.php Set of video's on there showing just how easy it is to DIY rather than have to send it off.
