Been put onto a 4 week course with work over near wolverhampton beginning in August and plan on talking the bike so the wife has the car during the week, plus getting home on a friday afternoon will be a lot quicker on the bike. Problem is i now need to buy a tailpack and panniers to fit all my gear in. I'm not in a rush to get some so i'm going to try and find the best deal i can so if anyone sees anything let me know.

depends if you are set on tailpack and panniers, but check out:
http://www.over-board.co.uk/catalog/index.php I have the 60 litre duffel. Pretty cheap at £30 for a very well made waterproof bag - designed for boaty types. I got enough in there for a week away with room to spare - it has straps to compress to size. Bungees sideways on the pillion fine, can feel it against my backpack sometimes, but not so much as to interfere. Plus, can be used for things other than biking. |

Sorry, £34.99, not £30.

Its 67cm long (so 67cm wide across bike), which sounds a lot but sticks out no further than panniers would I imagine. Certainly did not look wider than the bars, and did not look like I had a fridge/freezer strapped to the back of the bike Vietnam style. If you had soft panniers that strap across or under pillion seat, can't see why the bag would not sit across the lot nicely, as long as the panniers do not stick up above the seat height too much.
I used the bars either side under the rear seat cowl as bungee points (I think these are actually meant to be used as such), as well as the grab rail. If the panniers obscure those bars you may need a little more imagination with bungee points. Also, if you use the grab rail to strap to, make sure the bolts are snug, mine always seem to like to work their way loose every now and then for some reason. |
