i want to change the rear shock on my sv650. i weigh in at a measly 9 3/4 stone. i have read that a zx10 shock is a good choice and i,ve seen two available 04/05, but what year for a suitable spring weight for me. any help appreciated.

In that case extra length of SRAD 96-99 would be good for you so long as you are not short in leg.
That is choice with shocks... ZXR is short, SRAD is soft... with you being so light softness of SRAD is not a problem.

ah, i, ve shunk in the wash, some times the seat height catches me out moving bike at home, so could do with same height or slightly less. the zx10 shock i,ve seen is good value but not probably right?

05-06 ZX6-R would fit the bill, slightly stiffer than stock, probably spot on for you. I think that -10R one you have seen is very similar.

both are on fleebay. one is cheap, one is in aus, but has 800 miles on it and is mint. stands at about 90 quid for shock and postage to uk.

That is high, around £45 is typical/reasonable IMO.

ruled them both out because of higher spring rating. the sv oem shock on mine is 515 ft lbs and 337 mm long. when i sit on bike it drops by about 3/4 inch and bouncing up and down hardly compresses any more. i,m looking for much better shock with a tad less spring rating and a similar length. seen a listing of shock specs on forum. 06/07 kawasaki zx10 would be about right 338mm 464 ftlbs, but cant find one, so next best thing is zx10r 2008/9 with same specs almost as mine but much better quality shock. £79.

I have a 10R shock on mine. I would say that it feels stiffer than the standard shock & slightly taller, but it does give the back end a far better feel. I am a bit of a fatty though
