When I first bought my SV650 K3 a couple of months back one of my first jobs was to fit new brake pads, I went for the standard EBC pads but have been very disappointed with the braking power both back and front, they should have bedded in by now but still offer poor response - does anyone else have this problem? what brake pads do you use?
Cheers |

I had EBC HH pads and liked them, but maybe our expectations were different. When you changed the pads did you service the calipers?

I use the ebc sintered pads, tbh the sv brakes arent all that good but imo have enough to stop me, they are only 2 piston calipers, is this your first bike? when was the last time the fluid was changed / bled? you got the standard rubber hoses etc etc
+ what simesb just said |

I use EBC pads, and they stop on a pin(so to speak) But then my brake system is serviced on a regular basis.
Sounds like yours needs one, doubt it will be just the pads.

I used ebc HH, they felt different to OEM.
By that, they appeared to be a little vague when tickling the brakes. but grab a handful, they stopped hard enough to bottom the crappy SV front suspension. As others have said, make sure your callipers are well serviced. That they float properly on the pins and there is no sticky pistons.

Are they the "organic" pads?
I fitted them to my k2 along with calliper clean, didn't like them to be honest. Apparently the HH are ok, the calliper service is a good idea as well. |

What were the brakes like before you changed the pads? Is there any difference or are they just the same? If there is no improvement I'd suggest the same as others and give your brakes an overhaul. Change of fluid will do wonders. If they are better but not as you would have expected, it's probably just the fact the brakes on the SV are adequate, just not great.

I also have an 02 Yamaha XJ900S which also has twin pot calipers with discs about the same size as SV and it stops a lot better and is around 80kg heavier than the SV
When I changed the SV pads I gave the calipers a good clean and all appeared free and working but the pads I fitted were not sintered, are the sintered ones a lot better? the price difference would certainly suggest so |

I've got the organic GG pads fitted, and in all honesty they're pretty crap. I fitted them straight after a service too, and they're not nearly as good as the pads I had on before.
