Had a day off and loads of bits stacking up I the garage, ready to be fitted. Whilst fitting a set of Oxford Hot Grips (pig of a job this time) I came to put the throttle grip and associated bar end weight on and something has happened to the internal screw in the handle bar. Now when I try and screw the bar ends in the screw just keeps turning and is not engaging/catching or the internals appear to move and the bar end is tight at a point where it is a cm or so from the end of the bars.
I hope that make sense. The internals appear loose. Has anyone else experienced this or has a fix please as it driving me mad? Cheers H |

Fallout has a video on installing bar ends and he mentions what to do if the screw keeps turning. Can't remember exactly what it is though... Would find the exact one, but at work and YouTube is filtered. It'll be named something obvious though.

Ahhhh! Sorted.
Initial mistake:- I undid the screw on the end of the bar weights, but instead of loosening it I completely undid the screw and removed the bar weight and associated screw. Then the outer rubber bung and metal sheath come out. This left the inner expanding, rubber bung and nut and washer, inside. The inner nut had detached itself from the expanding rubber bung. Because the inner most nut had detached, each time I came to try and screw it all together the screw never found the nut and just turned. Fix:- bent a coat hanger and manipulated it through the square central hole in the inner expandable rubber bung, then slowly and gently pulled on the coat hanger, removing the bung. I leant the bike over towards me and the nut rolled out of the handlebar. Re-assembled and job done! Just incase it help any one else in the future. Cheers H Ps. I found the video, as mentioned above and it does mention this problem, but no fix is given. |
