Default Anyway to improve/replace fuel tank seal?

My sv always seems to have a fuel smelling coming from the filler hole. Upon inspection the filler hole has a lot of rust around the overflow area under the cap and you can always push the cap down further like its got a gap to fill.

So can you replace the rubber seal or do anything of that nature?

Cheers

It will smell as when you fill it or it slops around it may splash into this area under the cap. The cap itself is on a spring I think so it will push down a bit too. Sounds perfectly normal if there are no leaks and all the mounting screws are done up correctly? It does have a seal underneath too - perhaps remove the whole thing and check its all ok?

It's an 01 curvy faired.

The main thing is I am worried there is something wrong as there is ALWAYS the smell of fuel fumes.

I also have the concern that my fuel will surely just sit there degrading at a faster rate.

When I get a chance I will take it off and see if a bit of tampering helps.

I don't suppose there is any kind of replacement I can get? Like a universal locked cap?

Open the cap and find the drain hole in the filler well, get a tube and hold it over the end of said hole and blow, can you hear the air flowing into the tank? If yes then the filler well drain tube is corroded through.

Search 'filler well', this has happened before.
