Default Cleaning a K&N filter

Is it worth shelling out a tenner on the K&N recharge kit or will some of the plethora of aerosols and other chemicals that I have in the garage do it?

What is in the recharge kit and is there an alternative?

BTW, its REALLY dirty! and I also removed half a gravel trap from in there too

Cheers,
C

brake cleaner and an air line, that what we do on the race cars

this is what we use to clean it with LINK

spray on (soak it) get the air line and from the carb/tb side of the filter blow through the filter the cr&p should blow out, then let it sit and dry

The K+N official kit is some serious detergent soap or something... works well actually, you can see the red oil getting lifted out as you rinse it.
