Default Rain and front spark plug don't like one another. Annoying?

Hello there all.

Just wanted to share my little invention with you.

HOWEVER IF I'M NOT THE PIONEER OF THIS IDEA I DO APOLOGIZE. SORRY.

Right. Let's start.

Those of you, who ride your beloved SV's in all weather conditions, like myself, probably came across rather irritating problem and that being mis-firing of the front spark plug. Water from the wheel being splashed on it and its cable, causing...you know what I'm on about.

One day on my way to work it was pouring down like crazy. Having my 650S suddenly turned into a single cylinder bike a few times, made me pretty grumpy. When I finally got to work (soaked) I wanted to check cables of newly installed Hootaz and while doing that I came up with something.

Fenda-extenda seems to be a good solution (currently awaiting delivery), but maybe not everyone likes the look of it and would like something else. I wanted a solution for the rainy - fenda - awaiting period. With help from workshop guys at work (thanks once again) I made this. Its not the best quality coz it was done quickly and the bike is dirty but that I blame on the weather that day. It was clean the previous day.

So this is is the THINGY I made.

Quite simple. Piece of plastic glass (polycarbonate I think its called, not sure, sorry) in my case it was 150mm X 100mm and a metal strip (alloy apparently is the best) and two screws.

Bolted it to the radiator mounting. The hole was drilled a bit too close to the edge and I will make another one closer to the plate.

Few days later I had to ride in really heavy rain again and had no problems whatsoever so it seems to do the job, it doesn't block air flow to radiator and its not too close to heat sources so it won't (hopefully) melt. I know it could be made a bit nicer or fancier, but I have very limited access to proper workshop and this one was made thanks to the helping hand of my work colleagues so I can't really moan.

Like I said at the start if someone done it before I shall happily bow .

Take care you all.

Mike

OR....

Just make sure the drain hole is clear and the plug-lead is properly seated...

K6 has the rubber flap as standard.

A fender extender fitted and some silicone grease around the plugs.. never had any problem.

And looks better than a bit plexi.

+1

I had this problem also. The fenda extenda and GT85 sprayed around the plug seal cured it.

I think that has the makings of a good idea but a little work on the aesthetics would not go amiss.

Along with a fender extender and some silicone grease it does.

So it doesn't work then. Fender extender a silicon grease work on bikes without the flap.

Whatever.

What I said was that all three things together work.

Individually they all might fail at some point, but as a group they work.

Good Effort Mike

I am also in the 'there are easier & more aesthically pleasing solutions' camp. But congrats on the inventiveness at least it worked for you, and thanks for sharing.

Now go & patent it before Motrax copy it & steal all your potential revenues - I don't think it has been seen before.
