First adjust the clutch - not just the cable.
Take the front sprocket cover off and do this: Quote:

Is the cable secured properly both ends? Broken clutch plates also change the biting point randomly, but i wouldn't go down the road until you have checked the cable and clutch assembly, search the forum, loads of info on that.

been out ..gear change is alot better but the clutch is still biting when in 1st gear and stationary at lights or junctions. If i take brakes off the bike is trying to move forward slightly..could the clutch plates be sticking together ? should I take them out to clean? if so what should I use to clean them?

If you have adjusted it properly as above try checking your engine oil.Is it filled to the correct level and does it need changing?

when I got the bike the oil was just over the max marker..I replaced the oil and filter which is now showing in the middle of the window.the oil change was 3 weeks ago ive had the bike for 6 weeks..the local bike shop recons the plates can absorb excess oil which can make then stick together

You can get a bit of warping of the clutch plates which means they cant fully disengage.
Or you can get too little lift on the actuating mechanism.I had to replace that worm gear thingy that you adjusted because it was worn out and not generating enough movement to lift the clutch fully. That was afew years ago and it cost less than £20 I think.
