Default Sprocket stamp has to be on outside?

I put on a new chain and sprockets and I have put them on so the stamp on the sprockets are facing inwards, I've been riding around like this for 100miles or so....but keep seeing that the print has to be facing outside....does it HAVE to be?

as a general rule, always check when changing if there is any off set on the old ones and replicate on the new, if there is none (if it's there it's usually the rear), then anyway you like is fine.

Cheers Mark.

if that's the case, then yes should be.

if they are 'dished' then they will have an orientation to what side they go. the reason is to make sure that the chain has the correct offset to make it in line with each sprocket.

the fronts are usually flat both sides but the back's are usually dished. if the back is dished then the 'flat' side will go inwards.
