Default Gear selection problem.

Hi everyone
Haven't been on here for ages now, so dont think im being rude.

Am having some problems with the gears on my curvy sv650, cant find neutral when stopped unless i turn of the engine, when stopped and in gear the bike still tries to pull forward even with the clutch pulled right in, and it wont change up unless in above 8-9k rpm, tried adjusting the clutch cable, and it seemed abit better for about a week, then back to the way it was, now when i adjusted it last it didnt seem to make any difference at all.

Any thoughts or opinions would be great. Cheers.

Did you adjust the clutch at the engine end (under the sprocket cover) or just the cable at the lever? Have another go at the adjustment starting at the engine end. There's an excellent guide by anna here.

That seems the most likely culprit but check oil level and chain tension too. When was the oil last changed?

have no idea when the oil was last changed, have had the bike about a year, but i really haven't had a chance to use it alot.
Am changing the oil and filter tomorrow

As said above, adjusting the cable adjusters only adjusts the cable, (!).

The lifter should be adjusted first, then the cable slack set.

Do this:

So it stands to reason the oil hasnt been changed in well over a year.

Change the oil & new filter, NOW.

Then come back and tell us how much better it feels.

also check the level, having too much oil causes this issue of not being able to select a gear if the bike is standing still

mine does the same thing, doesnt like first sometimes, second or third. and even clunks sometimes, but putting chain lube and oil change always helped.

but then again i tried to fix my airbox and didnt put it on properly and now my engine doesnt sound happy =[

maybe i should buy a cbr600rr and be done with the sv650
