Default Brake disc prices

What would you consider a 'good' price to pay per front disc?
Looking around most suppliers you pay £120 per disc upwards for non brand, up to EBC, Brembo, Galfer, Armstrong etc etc

Good morning.

You get what you pay for with discs. £120-£140 is about right for decent quality floating discs. Avoid the cheap tat. It ain't worth it. Not when it comes to brakes.
You'll need new pads too, don't forget.

I personally prefer EBC discs. I'll dig out a price for them when I get the chance.

Cheers.

Agree with Spannerman about getting what you pay for and I wouldn't risk putting Chinese discs on my bike

These are British made and competitively priced. Bibio has them on his

Good morning all.

EBC discs for the SV retail at £149.95 inc VAT. However, the trade margins on EBC are still pretty good. So, us nice chaps in the trade can offer respectable discounts on them.

I have a customer who has Blackshadow discs on his Z1000. His calipers are in very good order, & they appeared to work well. However, after a 1000 miles or so, one of the discs had worn severly in one area. This caused pulsating of the brake lever, similar to that of a warped disc.
He sent them back to Blackshadow, & received what has to be the best 'Cack, & Bull' badly written e-mail I've seen for a while. Basically, they suggested that he should have checked the 'run out' of the discs after installing them. If the discs are new, & the wheel etc is in good order there should be no 'run out' end of!
Furthermore, they implied that discs are more likely to wear unevenly when travelling at motorway speeds, than when riding around town. Unless the brakes are binding, (which his aren't) there will be no heat generated at motorway speeds. So, how the hell can they be more likely to wear?
They also suggested that he may have fitted them with used pads. Which he didn't.
In short it seemd to me to be an excuse not to honour any warranty. They did say they could put them right for £20 per disc, + VAT & carriage I expect.

If you read Blackshadows website. It says the discs are assembled in their own workshops. The implication here is that the components of the discs are made elsewhere. Hmmmmmm! I wonder where that could be? The land of Flied Lice I expect.
All the components of EBC discs are made in the UK.

I've just read Blackshadow's warranty page. Every get out is covered.

Someone should teach the Taffs to use correct English. In the bit about bead blasting or honing your discs when changing pads (utter BS if ever I've heard it). They say 'Racers do this after every third race weekend, & they suggest that one is to perform this 'regiment' when you change your pads. Regime anybody?

Cheers.

spannerman, cheers for your reply
I thought i was better off asking as i didn't want to over pay for tat and miss out on spending money on good parts. Brakes aren;t a place i'm looking to save money on, as with anything to get a good deal is nice!

£150, is a fair price for them. I might be knocking for them at the end of the month

You can't beat OE discs. Unfortunately their price may cause you to have a wee wobble. (£540 for my 14)

I run ebc on the sv and they are fine. Not as good initial bite compared to the OE in the wet and look scabby quicker.

I have had blackshadows on my gsx14 for less than a year and they are gubbed. Similar to what is described above. Bobbins/buttons need constant attention. Terrible rep on the 14 owners site too. Fitting Galfers.

Good to know about the Black Shadow reputation not being good.

You get what you pay for & I guess that's feedback from your testers and customers, plus the R&D work companies like EBC put into the product development, which is what you're paying for

OEM everytime unless your pushing into Braking or Brembo money. Genuine injected discs RRP are only £102 per side and Curvy SV £125 per side.

Nice to know that Suzuki have included the SV in their recent reductions in spares prices. Now some O/E parts compare very favourably with pattern ones.

Mind you, it always makes me think that they're admitting that they were ripping people off in the first place

Cheers.

I'd only use EBC pads on EBC discs, I would never put EBC pads on standard discs ever again after seeing so many worn beyond the limits in a very short space of time - EBC HH pads utterly destroyed the previously good discs on a Thunderace I owned and after asking around I found this was normal. The EBC discs I've used in the past have been ok, but as Sarah said, it's OEM for me if I possibly can.
