Anybody know how to do this? I adore spanner_man and he is the finest mechanic in the West, but I just can't afford a mechanic if it IS possible for me to do it myself.
If someone near Egham, Surrey, was willing to help me do it, show me through it, I would be infinitely grateful! I can help the next guy who asks and everybody is happy! ![]() Last edited by allantheboss; 27-03-12 at 01:50 AM. |

Swindon is a little far to go, don't you think ?

I go to Uni in Egham! My bike and limited tool set are also here. I apologise I failed to mention, I will update my profile too!

Hi! I`m just in the middle of that. I`m doing it first time in my life, so let`s say i`m not really good with that, but i think i know what to do in theory. If you want to pop in and have a look on my bike, you`re welcome. Also i`ve got the haynes manual, you can read it trough.

Valve checking is quite straight forward. I am down the road, the problem is letting the bike cool down before doing the check, engine needs to be cold.

That's a problem I can help you with. Don't ride the bike the day you do it.
I've just taken my first SV cam cover off and it really isn't difficult. With a Haynes manual and half a brain you should be fine. You will need to take the tank, airbox and any other bits off that are in the way. |

I'm not riding the bike at all at the moment so that's no.1 cleared!
Don't I need some clearance-checking tools? I don't have any of those.. I don't have a Haynes manual either. I'm going to be selling the bike after my track day, so didn't want to buy one just to sell straight after! I couldn't find a link to an online free version either, but would be happy to do it alone if I had one.. |

Is it a curvy or a pointy? I've got a curvy haynes manual in the garage along with the £3 tool required to measure the gap.
PS. Why are you selling the bike? |

It's a pointy, K6. My girlfriend bought me a trackday voucher, but I really didn't want to take my Vmax for it. So I got this cheapy, planned to do some sprucing-up, use it, then sell it on. It had one purpose, which was the track day.
