Default Advice on second hand SV650 please.

Hi all, I've been looking for an SV650 and recently came across this ad:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUZUKI-SV-...#ht_542wt_1139

"HERE WE HAVE A SUZUKI SV 650s Y reg IT HAS COVERED 28,686 MILES STARTS AND RUNS FINE.THE BIKE ITS SELF IS NICE AND TIDY WITH ONLY A COUPLE OF VERY VERY SMALL MARKS NOTHING REALLY IT COMES WITH 2 KEYS,V5,SERVICE BOOK(STAMPED UP) 3 OLD M.O.T,S AND IT WILL COME WITH 1 YEARS M.O.T IT IS ALSO FITTED WITH AN ALARM WITH 2 FOBS AND IS DATATAGED AND HAS ALL THE PAPER WORK WITH IT.THE BACK TYRE IS VERY GOOD AND THE FRONT TYRE IS NEARLY NEW.ALL IN ALL A NICE LITTLE BIKE THATS READY FOR SUMMER"

Price is £1450.

I've spoken to the seller who seems very reasonable, though he raised the fact that the bike isn't currently running quite right (some stuttering), but he will be putting it in for a service before selling, which will include a full carb clean and plug replacement. I'm in a position to see the bike this weekend, with the aim to get it delivered at a later date. However, this will be before the service. Do you think it would be a better idea to wait until it's serviced before having a look and does this look like a good deal?

Thank you in advance for any help!

If you go to view it and it's running like crap then on a test ride the whole bike will sound and feel terrible and you won't want it. Waste of time in my opinion. I would tell the seller this and suggest most other potential buyers would feel the same.
If he gets it fully serviced and running sweet it will be easier to sell and easier for you to say if you like it or not.

OR you could go see it in its present condition and pull his pants down with the price, as long as you are confident it's an easy problem for you to fix. Could end up with a very good deal or a complete dog.

I'm no expert but that sounds quite steep to me, plus the fact it's not running right.

I have avoided buying anything that is being sold as 'i will fix it after you've bought it'.

Doesn't sound like a particularly great deal to me tbh. Mine was loads better value than that, with half the mileage.

I'd avoid. Also looking at the ad he hasn't said it isn't running right?- you only got that info because you emailed him? Wonder what else would come to light.... It's also expensive, IMO.

Could almost buy my k4 with 4.8k miles for that lol , is damn steep :S plus the problem sounds like front plug syndrome try got damp probably chugging , but I'd say he's found other problems and is just trying to flog it

Thank you very much for the advice people. I had a feeling that would be the case, but thought I'd run it past some people who know what they're talking about first. Time for me to continue the search!

With regards to price though, I've been finding that most of the bikes at around £1500 are of a similar age/mileage as this one (though actually working). I'd love to know where you guys find these great deals!
