What bike?

I'm thinking about trying something different next year but not sure what to go for. It would have to be cheap on insurance or at least comparative to the SV with low maintenance costs.

Now I tried Singles (2-Stroke and 4-Stroke) and V-Twins so I'm thinking of trying out an Inline 4. I'm going to look into test rides but need to narrow down some options first. Not even sure test rides are an option because of my age.

Any ideas? Maybe something you've had in the past that was fun to ride and didn't cost a fortune to maintain and insure? I'm open to all suggestions, not just I4s.

I had a 1999 XJ600 diversion, not hugely pretty but similar power to the SV, cost loads less than my SV for insurance, less on tax, cheaper on parts, particularly tyres. I loved mine, and probably enjoyed it more than the SV (blasphemy I know), as long as you dont want something that is a looker- the reason i bought the SV (the looks) as it still makes me happy every time i look at her, but not as much of a laugh to ride

Whats your budget?
Most the SS600's will be a fair chunk more than the SV. It was about £1k for a 1998 ZX6R compared to £650 (ironically) for the SV

The Bandit or GSXF 650 are remarkable value for money and quite low on insurance grouping. The earlier 600 carbed models still have a huge following but my 650F has a few more ponies and is ultra smooth. Not as fun as a sports middleweight but then I don't have to rev mine hard to make the progress I'm happy with, plus it's all day comfy and practical.

Not sure on budget as it won't be till next year but something below £3000 is probably a good estimate. Saw a nice '04 SV1000 for £2990 in the Rizzla colours.

I really like my SV but just fancy trying something different, if I can't find anything that really stands out for me then going for a newer model SV is also an option.

Nothing wrong with wanting to try something different, but then there's nothing wrong with sticking to what you like. I had my curvy for ten years before I got the bug enough to change. Ignore all the people that will scoff about IL4s and get what makes you happy. You can always change back again if you want to but you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you tried it for yourself. That sort of budget will get you a two/three year old Bandit, GSXF or GSR with no problem, and that's just from the Suzuki family...

I would if I had the money. Reason I have to wait till next year is because I'm still only on Apprenticeship wages.
