I've come into the ownership of a custard yellow SV650S curvy, which was bought from a fellow orger. It has a couple of knocks, so I'm looking to straighten it out a bit before I pass my Mod 2 next week (positive thinking).
I'm a complete and utter nublet when it comes to motorcycles (and cars... and tools... and women...) I've ordered a Haynes manual, but it probably won't arrive until the end of the week at the earliest, so really I'm after some advice and/or a how-to on replacing bits and pieces so I can buy the stuff I need in advance. I've tried the search function, but all I could turn up were stories about people binning it all over the road. Whilst I read them with morbid curiousity, they didn't really help... LHS Wing Mirror ![]() Someone out there got seven years bad luck from this bad boy and it needs replacing. The previous owner got used to it and didn't get around to sorting it out. Are replacement mirrors easily fitted or do they only come as a complete cowl & mirror combo? I've had a poke and I'm guessing the rubber sheath comes up from the stalk (eer, forgive the terminology if it isn't completely kosher) and the whole unit is unscrewed from the bike there? LHS Rear Indicator ![]() This has lost a lot of plastic and it's sheared all the way to the innards on the corner. I could tape it over with some black gaffa tape, but I'd rather replace it. Same story with the wing mirror: can I just get a new housing (in which case, is it just a case of bunging all the wiring and the bulb into the new one?) or do they only come "complete"? Scorpion Exhaust ![]() God. Damn. Is this loud or what? And when the choke's on, it's like the coming of the apocalypse. It has no baffle and no hole for installing one either. It's also stamped "not for road use", which has me a bit concerned. After a bit of digging, I've come to terms that a lot of people use them on the road regardless (until they get pulled and stuck with a £30 fine and a rectification notice, that is) and the bike passed an MOT this year with it on, but my neighbours won't appreciate it, especially as I could get home anywhere between 0300 and 0500 on a weekend morning. Loud pipes save lives and all that, but I like the idea of not waking up to an aftermarket wheelie bin installed in my front end. How easy would it be to change this exhaust over to something more Construction and Use regs friendly and can anyone recommend a road legal can that a chomfongler like me could install? Lock Cylinders The previous owner did say the keys need a bit of a shake to turn in the cylinders (ignition more so than the fuel cap) and he wasn't lying. Takes a while to get used to the correct amount of jigging required. A little research on the internet also tells me this isn't a problem unique to me with older Suzuki lock cylinders, but I couldn't find a known way of improving it, other than suggestions of blasting the tumblers with WD40 because it might make it better and suggestions of not blasting it with WD40 because it might make it worse. Am I destined forever more to key jiggery? Other than that, the bike's fine. There's some minor fairing damage and the LHS crash bung is sheared (it did it's job, I suppose!), but I'll source replacements for that as and when. |

Grind up some pencil lead and put a bit in the lock and rub the key blade with it then in and out a few times will hopefully help it.
mirror I have no idea but you could always get a unit off ebay and install it the rubber on the stalk does lift up to reveal the bolts might as well replace the indi's, will be easier and could always go aftermarket at the same time hth |

In no particular order:
Buy a complete LHS wing mirror & rear indicator. ebay should have a selection, as will the "for sale" area on here. On the inside of the fairing where the mirror is, there should be a triangular panel secured with a sincle screw. Take that out, and you can see 2x 6mm headed allen nuts that go through the front sub-frame and hold the wing mirror in place. The rear indicator is likely a 10mm nut or two on the other side of the mudguard (look underneath), and a wiring clip under the rear pillion seat. You can drill a hole in the under-side of the exhaust pipe and use that to bolt in a generic db-killer / baffle, that's what I had done when I got mine, still sounds nice, but no problems with quiet track days or MOTs. Some people have also polished off the "not for road use" marks as they're rarely very deep. For the lock, add some motor oil and see if it gets any better. Try both keys, as often one will be fresher than the other. Jambo

Cheers guys. The graphite has helped a bit - enough to make it a predictable amount of jigging anyway
![]() Trying to find aftermarket wing mirrors for the curvy is proving difficult. All the reasonably priced ebay listings I could find are for pointys and I'm not really feeling a splash out of 50 quid for OEM ones. Are the fittings incredibly different between the curvy and the pointy? |

2nd hand wing mirrors, indicators etc come up on here, and ebay plenty often enough.
Check out the "For sale" section of the forum. Jambo
