Default Front Wheel Removed, But What's This?

Hello

Just after abit of advice of identifying what this is?
After sliding the "axle?" out from between the forks, this was connected inside the left side.

(Excuse the amazing tea towels covering the calliper )

I'm guessing its something like speed sensor?
Either way, inside the housing is what I can only describe as a hardened plastic cyclinder, which can be removed. ( A spacer?)
Parts of this fell off when I removed the wheel, but as you can see it's wrecked

How important is this piece and can I continue to reattached my wheel once I've got a new tyre although this part is damaged?

Be a couple of days, normally in UK
You can run it without a speedo, mine did for about a month

I have also glued the useless plastic magnet back together with epoxy and ran it like that for a while until I could get a new one.

You would have thought that by now some one would have realised what a pile of rubbish these bits are and made a good one to replace it with!

Just remember that the main reason that these get broken is due to the failure to align it correctly with the recesses in the wheel that drive it, then when the axle is tightened it just crushes it.

New Pilot Roads fitted
Brake callipers and pads cleaned
But without the speed sensor rotor (Or 100% of one) no speedo
Thanks everyone for helping identifying the part.
£22 and a 2 day wait now ensues

Just FYI, so long as you've got at least one tang left on there then they run and work fine. All the teeth do is spin the rotor around.

Cheers Chris,
But out of the 4 teeth I have 1/4 of one.
Someone did a really good job of destroying it, I'm almost glad I found it now rather than it go faulty later.
