it's only as hard as you make it. TBH it's a pretty simple job and should only take a max of 10mins unless you are not used to tools.

The fastest way I can think of doin it is to drop the forks through the top yoke. Simply because I can't get to the ignition barrel T40s. What ya think?

Just take off stem nut and remove top yoke. Simples.

nope, take the yoke top nut off and move the yoke out the way. there is enough slack in the ignition cable.

The steering lock won't easily go past* the frame lug in the same axis at the stem - this is deliberate - it makes dismantling the steering harder and thus makes nicking your bike slightly less simple.
If you want the yoke off you'll need to drop the forks, to replace the handlebar take the front wheel and mudguard off, then slide the relevant fork downwards. * I have seen it hammered past - don't.

why did you separate them in the first place..... you only need to loosen enough to slide off the bar that is unless you have taken them off the bar before you took the bar off...
