Clicky clutch?

I adjusted my clutch today as it wasn`t biting until almost fully let out and I wanted it midway.

My clutch has always clicked when the lever is pulled in, not every time but often enough to notice and I think it is coming from the lower end of the clutch cable, dont know the technical name but the bit that pivots with the spring attached, (spring has bust as well so need to source a new one)

I haven`t taken it out yet so not sure if it has all worked but the click still needs adressing, any ideas anyone?

Also there was a thread about clutch adjustment with photos, anyone know where to find it?

Is it clicking with the movement of the lever or is it a rotational noise related to movement of the front sprocket/chain?

Think it is the rotational noise, having re-read the Haynes book it would appear all I have done today is tale the slack out of the clutch cable.........bugger........thought I was doing so well!!

Yeah thats the one, but the pics don`t show for me too had to Google search for images and have it now, decent guide that it.

Looks like I did only do 1/2 a job today (nothing new there!) so will dimantle tomorrow and have more of a poke around to see where the clicking is coming from.

Can be a bit of a pain getting the clutch adjustment right but even if you have done it wrong, it shouldn't lead to rotational noise.

A clicking/ticking when pulling away is more like the chain being too slack or having a tight spot (mine is doing it at the mo as it's on its way out). Suppose it could also be an issue with the driveshaft going into the front sprocket but hopefully not - hope you get it sorted.

Sorry my bad it is the lever action causing the clicking.

But the noise is not at the lever but the other end could be the actuator?

Clutch update:

Not only was the spring broken but the bottom nut was too, so the thread on the bottom of the clutch cable was right up into the housing.

Put a new nut on the bottom and adjusted the clutch as in Anna`s thread.

Now I have too much cable, there is no way of adjusting it further, the bottom nut is all the way down and the lever adjustment will not take up the slack.

Is it the end of the road? new clutch time?

Or buy a new cable and hope the old one is stretched?

When you adjusted the screw and lock nut, with the cable slack, what position was the arm in? Sometimes setting it so the arm is a little further down uses some of the extra slack. It should generally be about 90 degrees.

It was as far down as could be, took the actuator off as it was distorting when the lever was pulled and the cable attached and it fell apart, bearings fell out the cage, didn`t realise motorbike parts were made of butter!

Anyhows, ordered a new actuator kit and new clutch cable, will pop them on when they arrive and take it from there.

No matter what though, even if I replace the clutch it will end up decent as the way it was was causing cramp in my hand after 30 mins or so of riding!!

Thought I was doing so well with my winter maintenance too
