water vapor? - SV650.org

quick question.. i have replaced the engine in my sv650s with a new one.. but i have a worry.. this morning when i turned her on.. i could see what i think is water vapor coming from the engine's rear.. now i also know that thursday when i was riding her we forgot to tighten one of the hoses for the anti-freeze and she did leak for a bit.. but that problem has been fixed.. the hose has been tighten.. so my question is.. is it normal to see water vapor (it is cold here) or is it the bruning of the anti-freeze that is left on the engine.. or? any ideas?

Which pipe was it that you had to tighten?? Might just be condensation formed inside your exhaust since it's so cold. Did it feel different to ride? Don't worry about it, sv's don't have super high compression so I'm sure it will be ok...

yep i have done 4 days worth of riding and no problems.. does smoke in the mornings.. but i think that is because it is getting colder (just bought the bike.. first winter with her) and the water is slowly heating up and turning to vapor..

I sometimes get that as well, its no problem if its coming out the exhaust. I had left it out when it p**sed down and water must have got in the baffle.

Water is a by-product of combustion, when it's cold outside and the exhaust isn't hot, then it will condense into visible vapour. Sometimes it will condense into liquid water and you will see it dripping from the tailpipe.

You can smell antifreeze in the exhaust gases if that is getting into the cylinders, but there would be other, much more obvious, signs that there was something wrong if that were the case.

So basically don't worry
