Default SV650S Problem???

Need help! My son was in a minor accident with his 2001 SV650S. Most damage was to fairing, speedo and lights. I've replaced all the entire fairing, speedo unit, handgrips, radiator, left footpeg/assembly, shift lever, front wheel, both tires, battery, etc. Figured I might as well do things right once I started. I started the bike up last week for the first time in 2 months. I noticed that when I rev the bike to around 3000 RPMs that the exhaust down-tubes off the front cylinder gets red hot (glowing red/orange), back tube also but not as much. I don't remember this happening before, but I might just not have noticed. What could the problem be?? The bike seems to be running fine but don't want to damage anything until I get this fixed if needed. I've checked for airleaks around carbs, intake, etc but can't find anything wrong. Do I need to take this to my mechanic or is this normal??

I have seen it on the SV before. It shows up more in a garage where there's lower light levels.

There may be something wrong, but I suspect what you're seeing is "normal". It's not nice, but it's the way they are. It's less pronounced if you advance the ignition with a stepped key or slotted pick-up mounts (allegedly! ).

It is normal, someone asked this question a while back.

Dig through using the search function and you should find something.

I know I did. I just wanted to get some other opinions. I'm still getting mixed answers. Some (like you) say it's normal. Others say it's not. How can I be sure? I don't want to blow the motor or something like that. I just got the fairing/cowls back from the painter and am in the process of installing them. Hopefully everything turns out fine. I'd hate for the $2k I've put into this bike to be for nothing.

I never let my bike idle run on the choke that long, long enough to shut the garage door, put my gloves and lid on.. probably no more than 2 - 3 minutes.

How long are you letting it run at 3000rpm for before you notice the pipes glowing.

It runs at 3000 rpm's for less than 2 minutes before they start glowing orange/red. Choke is not a factor as it is shut off right after starting the engine. It has been garaged and that is where I noticed the glowing.
