Well, I was hoping to come down to Soho to meet you guys.
Unfortunately, a car driver behind me on the Euston Road on Tuesday morning failed to stop, and sent me flying through the air. After the attention of 12 policemen, 3 fire engines and one ambulance, my bike is now being assessed for repair (if repair is possible), and I'm at home admiring my amazing bruises. Thank goodness for my leather jacket, helmet, gloves and rucksack, otherwise I could have been in a much worse state (landed hard on my hip, and went skidding doen the road on my back, head and elbows). The car had rode up onto my rear tyre and bent my pillion seat up high enough for it to hit me in the back and throw me off the bike. then it had the audacity the crush the back end and exhaust (my lovely scorpion can!). Oh well, it could have been much worse, at least I could walk away. Now I'm just having to field dozens of calls from the insurance brokers, underwriters, injury solicitors, recovery agents and countless others. Once my bike is repaired, or I've bought another one, I'll be down to see you guys. Not as I want to preach but.......wherever you're going, please wear your leathers! Jo --> with a very sore ****! |

![]() ![]() omg, glad youre ok though. glad its just bruising. was the person tailgating or just not paying attention? ![]() cant emphasise enough why you should wear your gear. while people can moderate their riding while in tshirt, flip flops and shorts to avoid them causing an accident you cant control all the other muppets out there and stop them doing something stupid. Not that it should make you feel invulnerable but it will help reduce the injuries sustained. hope the insurance gets sorted as soon as possible. lyn |

welcome to the club
![]() I had much the same happen to me back in 94, I was on an Aprillia Pegaso at lights and a car came up behind didn't stop and crushed the rear wheel, sent the bike flying forwards ans scooped me on to the bonnect. I think with this type of thing it's the surprise more than anything. If I even stop now and their's nothing behind me, I always keep a check on the mirrors until the next vehicle has stopped or I can pull away. Still glad your Mostly OK. I'm sure if you're local you could beg a pillion down to Soho, if you wanted ![]() Cheers Mark.

It was at those roadworks, heading east in front of St Pancras. I was at the front in the right hand lane at the Judd Street traffic lights, where the lane goes from three to two.
I set off on green, but it looked like a black cab was going to pull out from behind a bus right into my lane (he was indicating and inching forward). So to avoid any conflict (and as the traffic was about 20 yards behind me), I slowed right down and nodded at hm to go. He dawdled a little, I came almost to a standstill...then....BANG! I was the only person at the scene who didn't see what happened. The women that hit me was realy upset and quite shocked - i guess becuase she had that moment of realisation that she was going to hit me. Although it felt like a lorry had hit me at around 40mph, her Clio was probably going no more than 20mph at the impact. I found out talking to her later that the bendy bus inside of her was pushing her across her lane into the concrete bollards (completely believable to anyone who has ever been along that stretch of road with it's misleading lane markngs). That distracted her, and she never saw me until it was too late. In my mind (as a car driver as well as a bike rider) it was just one of those moments where 99 times out of a hundred you can get distracted, and slam your brakes on and all is ok. This one that one other occasion, and I'm not angry at her (she admitted she thought she'd killed or seriously injured me). My kick-boxing classes are on hold for a while though.......and my friends have had there camera phones out taking pictures of the bruises to show their workmates! Jo |

Sounds pretty similar to my off in April - Thank goodness you're not seriously injured or worse.
I can relate to the surprise factor as well - one second you're waiting patiently for something to happen and then the earth moves. Anyway, my questions to you are: 1. D'ya wanna lift in to Soho? 2. Did you get any decent air? If there is anything you want any help with, don't hesitate to post something on here - assistance is not far away. |

Well, I've just had the cost of repair through......£3100...for a bike insured for £3200, and the insurers have confirmed it's a write-off! The damage is quite amazing:
Buckled rear sub-frame Buckled back wheel Damaged swing-arm Dented petrol tank (that was my knee!) Broken wing mirror Broken rear brake lever Smahed rear lights, number plate and holder Buckled chain guard Scratched and damaged lower faring Buckled pillion seat (completely jammed onto the frame) I'm dissapointed, but it's only a bike, and i'd rather it copped the brunt of the impact rather than me. I been to my GP for a check-up, and he sent me straight to A&E where they confirmed I have no broken bones or joint damage. I've got a shocking mix of drugs to take, and hopefully I should be back at work later next week. Moriarty - dunno about the air time, but most people who witnessed it thought i'd been thrown off then dragged under the car (I wasn't). Evryone from the driver who hit me, the police, fire crew, witnesses, paramedics, recovery guy, and the bloke who received my bike at the garage all reckon it's a miracle I wasn't killed considering how powerful the impact was. As for coming down to soho, thanks a lot for the offer, but it'll be a few days before I can flex enough to get on a bike. The insurance company are sending me an ER500 (cos I'm on a restricted licence) to tide me over. So I may see you there anyway (if I can work out how to get there!). So I guess i need to start looking for a new bike! Ta Jo SV650S K2, curvy, blue, lower fairing, scorpion can....RIP |

Really to sorry to hear about what must have been one helluva shock - blimey! It's great to hear that you're more or less okay and at least the driver stopped and it's all going through her insurance. Best of luck getting yourself sorted and look forward to saying hello one Friday at Soho maybe.
