Default Legal advice required

I bought a Sony laptop from Comet last July.

In November it developed a hardware problem with the sound and was sent back to Sony Vaio repair. Over 2 months later I received it back 'fixed'.

One week later (present day) and the backlight on the unit is flickering, obviously it's got a loose wire or connection.

I rang Sony and said I was not prepared to send it back and wait another 2 months+ for repair. I want my money back, either from them or Comet or a new laptop given that they obviously can't repair it properly.

What options do I have?

I asked to speak to a supivisor - none avail, "we'll ring you back". Had that for 9 weeks and not doing it again. I asked for customer relations departments. Then asked to go back in queue and wait for supervisor. Was then cut off.

that can't be right.

ring this guy's secretary, be real nice & polite, explain the problem and you never know, she/he might help you to get it sorted.
