Hi all,
Basically the story goes like this: my 17 year old sister has recently been told that if she does not go to school (sixth form) from 9am - 3pm then they are going to kick her out. However the problem is this: - she does not have lessons from 9am - 3pm. Most days she only has one or two which means she is in for 2-3 hours maximum in a given day - she attends all the lessons (supported by her attendance report) - she does all the work required (supported by academic review and teachers individual reports) - there are no facilities provided for her to get on with her work at school. Half the computers are rubbish and no TV's / Dvd's are available (the TV is for film studies when she has to analyse a film etc...). so she comes home and does it all here. My parents have booked an appointment to see the head of the sixth form to complain. Where does she stand in terms of the law? She isn't misbehaving or causing problems, she just isnt going in all day long. Any adivce would be appreciated ![]() Maria |

FFS, cant the younger people just do as they are Fing told, its not hard is it?? turn up for registration, attend lessons or private study go home!! WTF is dificult about that??
I think the school are right( 6th form is still school not college) as not turning up at 9 am for registration ( assuming there is in this 6th form, there was in mine) is effectivly a non attendance so techincally they can get her on that. I use to have loads of free periods at 6ht form and yes some were first thing, but me and my mates still attended. Your sister should wind her neck in and just abide the rules rather than trying to fight them. |

They won't kick her out. They get money for each pupil attending so kicking her out means they'll lose money which just won't happen.
I think someone has got confused and thinks that if they aren't there all day they'll losethe funding but it is based on class records. Maybe wrong but that is how I understood it. Legally??? Not too sure but I think it's the same as a job. Verbal Warning (in a formal meeting to which notes must be signed), 2nd warning, final warning. The school cant just throw her out on a whim same as a job can't kick you out when they feel like it.

![]() Exactamundo. A 'free' period is still school time, and should be used to study. If she's got that much free time, why not do another AS or something? |

Sorry I agree with the others.
School is school. Parents fighting against the rules is what is causing this country to go down the pan, as their kids think its ok, then the kids of their kids think its ok....its a downward spiral.
