Default is rear caliper 'floating'?? moving axle forward...

im changing my chain and need to move the rear wheel forwards to get some slack.
it seems the caliper needs to pivot around to let the axle move forward... makes sense... but my caliper isnt free to pivot. should it be???
i couldnt undo the bolt.... so ive left some wd-40 on and i'll have a go in the light.
just wondered if it was supposed to be 'floating' or jus 'adjustable'

cheers

If you're referring to the 14mm headed bolt and nut on the forwardmost part of the caliper, then yes, if you want to move the wheel it'll need to be slackened off.

are we talking about a curvy or a pointed SV.

I'd agree with slacking off the torque arm off on a curvy, but the caliper carrier on a pointed slides into the swing arm and is free to move once the axle is loostened.
