tiny little trickle of green-ish oily liquid down left hand side of the engine. start of something serious, or no idea, just forget about it????

depends where its coming from.
My old one had the "standard" trickle coming from the clutch cover. |

Are you sure it is not a coolant leak? My SV1000 has had a coolant leak from hoses a couple of times, which comes out a green colour. Nipping up the hoses usually solves it for me.

Green would definately suggest coolant. Clean everything up, then see if you can work out where it's coming from.
