Default specific punture question, advice please!!!

Guys,

Looking for some urgent advice, I've had a disaster (OK, stong word I know, but at least I've been a bit unlucky!)

I know punctures have been discussed, but I wanted to guage opinion on this very specific case.....

I found a small nail in my rear tyre yesterday. The tyre is a Metzeler 160/60/ZR17 on the back of my curvey SVS. The tyre is also only 60 miles old (I got it fitted at Michel Dever nr Winchester last weekend!!!)

I have a Bikesafe course booked for Sunday, and as I only discovered the flat last night, there is no time for a new tyre, but actually I'd much rather avoid buying a new tyre if it can be fixed.

The tack/small nail (approx 2mm dia) is embedded to the flat of the nail about 20mm off the centreline of the rear tyre, on the untreaded part. The puncture is clean through (no rip). Can it be fixed?! (and I mean professionally - I'm happy to pay to get it repaired properly)

Also, do any of you guys have any tips on good motorbike tyre places to do this in the Brighton/Hove area?

I'm reasonably new to riding and don't have any high speed track days planned if that's relevant!

Many thanks in advance,

Chris

The simple answer is yes. However, with these things its best for the tyre shop to have a look. Wouldnt worry, its probably well doable

Sorry, i dunno any places over your way but from your description it can deffo be fixed by a tyre shop.
Here in london i usualy pay about £35 for a ride in, fix, ride out job that takes about 30mins.

hth.

PM hall13uk if no-one pops in here o advise of local places to you. he used to live around that way and seems to have a decent local knowledge.
Just dont take it to AGees if he suggests that. Unless you think £500 odd is a fair price for a clutch.

Default Puncture

I'm sure I paid £17.50 at essential rubber in North London! Correct me if I'm wrong. I think I'd sell my bike if I had to pay that much for what seems to be a regular occurance, a puncture!

Essential Rubber!

Value, service and gorgeous mechanics* to watch fettle your bike, go on, you know it makes sense.

*This bit is a lie.

Default may have found a place....

I've found a couple of places round here:

KCs in Hove, lots of recommendations through work, but they won't and don't fix punctures. Gave me the spiel about 'z-rated' and 'not recommended' etc. I don't think they want the liability and would rather make a better margin on a new tyre.

TPG Portslade, nice bloke. can fix depending on where puncture is, but couldn't fit me in this weekend

The Motorcycle Centre in Brighton. Helpful guy over the phone, I'm heading down there with a loose wheel early tomorrow morning. They said from my description that they should be able to fix it. Haven't checked price but expect (hope!) <£25. Either way its gonna be a lot less than a new tyre! And, they're puncture repairs are guaranteed for the life of the tyre.

I'll let you know how impressed with them I was when the work is done...

Downgrading from 'disaster' 'pain in the ar£e'. Hopefully soon will downgraded just 'inconvenient'!

C.
