Default Advice please on servicing

Up until the warrenty ran out i serviced the bike every six months as it states in the book, never reaching the expected milage for that time period because of being out of the country.. Is the reason for the six monthly servicing schedual just that the oil goes funny or is there other reasons? If it's just the oil then i could really just change the oil myself and get the garage to do the service on the milage.

I prefer to service myself. Would only get the garage to check the valve clearances when that needs to be done.

For what you pay a garage you can do a hell of a lot more. Well I do rather than save money but even giving it a full service at home every 6months will be cheaper than a garage. Remember to put the receipts straight in your log book as they go missing fast.

We were talking about the financial point of this the other day. In 4 services you could save a good few hundred quid but if someone looks at your bike and see its in very good condition with loads of receipts they're never going to argue about servicing. Even if you don't have receipts a nice looking bike won't go for less than the proper servicing would have cost.

Plus garages give you the run around this time of year because they are all full. Sorry grump over
