I have had my SV650SX for 2 years.
I got it with 2 new tyres, i'm not 100% on the make, but they are decent tyres that have covered the best part of 10,000 miles (quite a lot motorway). 1 year ago i got a puncture on the rear, i got this fixed for a tenner. I now have another puncture on the rear, albeit a slow one. I have been told by a garage that puncture repair is not insurance approved and manufacturers do not cover against it, therefore its almost illegal. So, my predicament is... do i even bother fixing the puncture? I may need a new tyre, i need to check it, what is the minimum depth?? If i decide to just replace the tyre, what do people recommend for a good all round middle of the road tyre?? I dont go too fast or corner too low, so performance tyres arent a must. Any advice on the bits in red is appreciated!!!! ![]() |

10k miles, on one rear. 10,000? As in ten thousand? One & Four zero's? WHAT THE?!?! I managed 8k out of my last rear and it was down to the carcas! Quote:

I think my last set of Diablo Stradas on The ZX6R did about 11,500 miles, good tyres those though the Metzler Z6 is essentially the same tyre. With that much milage on them I'd just put a new pair on they'll be past their best really.
There are 2 types of repair, plugs pushed in from the outside are only temporary, ones with a propper plug and patch fitted from the inside are permenant, though the most you can have in 1 tyre is 2. Tyres section here well worth a browse: http://forums.sv650.org/forumdisplay.php?f=138

10,000 miles was an estimate...
i bought the bike with 16500 miles, it now has 24000... soooo thats only 7.5k ![]() bearing in mind i did do quite a few motorway miles, i'm fairly sure the tyre isnt down to replacing point yet. ![]() but, i am considering just getting a new one as i have already repaired one puncture in the current one. I'll give it a good check and if its nearly there i will replace it, may as well sort it for the £100 or so it will cost. Thanks |

For the record, its not illegal to have a puncture repair. ive had many...well, the bike,. not me.
At 7.5k i would replace the tyres as a pair. The garage wont reapir if near the limit anyway. |

I'd just replace it at that mileage.Even if it seems to have a bit of tread left it will be well squared off and not really worth the hassle of repairs.
Z6 is good for mileage work BTW.
