Angry Speed limiters?

Just heard something on the radio this morning that some wrinkly old bird suggests that speed limiters should be fitted to big bikes! "Not a nanny state - just to save lives!" Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Well that will finish the bike industry off and we'll oll convert to cars and double the congestion

Its a recommendation from a Commons Select Commitee, it was reported on BBC news this morning.

To reduce road deaths involving motorcycles they recommend fitting speed limiters.

How about...stopping people riding with just a CBT?

How about...showing us the real statisics? How many fatal bike accidents are as a direct result of the speeding rider? I am not naive enough to think that some crashes are not the fault of the rider but bet a large percentage are out of the riders control.

Its another group of polititians trying to make a name for themselves.

I just saw the news on the TV about this; and I too said "how much of those statistcs are responsible for people who only have a CBT?"

Motorcycling has become more popular, and many people are buying scooters and using them on a CBT, riding them in difficult situations (town riding) where the chance of an accidnet for someone who cant control their machine is very very high.

Isnt it a breach of our rights? To say "no, you can't have the fasest bike on earth because it might kill you"? Maybe they should ban breathing, since thats pretty dangerous too (all those nasty pollutants) or being in the sunshine (all those harmfull UV rays).

I'm not having a restrictor on my bike, its bad enough with 33bhp, but at least I can accelerate from 70pmh to 80mph to get into a gap safley

oh dear, how stupid are these people?

how much are they going to limit it by? even a family hatch like my focus diesel is capable of doing well in excess of 100, how many accidents are caused by speeds in triple digits? unless you limit everyone to 40mph you won't make any difference, but given the intelligence demonstrated by most of the politicians in london these days it wouldn't surprise me if they did

Yup. Most accidents I've heard of occur at low speed (indeed, my two accidents occured at < 10mph!). I've heard of very very few accidnets occuring at motorway speeds.

I dont think speed is the killer, its people not being able to handle their motorcycle. And its crap road surfaces too.

Indeed - I have a diesel car with a top end of 130mph 0-60 of 9.0 secs through 140bhp!! I use cruise control to keep me sensible at 70 - 80 mph on motorways and I feel as though I'm standing still with cars beltin past and very large vans for that matter.

what a bunch of knee jerks!

Can't see it happening to be honest due to the logistics, cost and impracticallity. How do you limit a vehicles speed without the owner then ripping the device off, how do you know what limit the road is etc.

Just some old politician trying to make a name for himself by suggesting a ridiculous idea.

There just trying to wrap everyone in cotton wool so they continue to live..................and pay their taxes.

sadly thats quite easy, gps unit built into the cdi and jobs a goodun from there pov.

/edit

wont work for us curvy riders tho, but fuel injected bikes and cars would be sooo easy to restrict the speed of

Until America turn off GPS...

This is somewhat linked to the ISA (Intelligent Speed Adaptation) idea. I think it will cause more trouble than it's worth. Road rules and regulations are fair enough and we should try to abide by them but we don't need interference from outside sources, it's hard enough as it is.
