Question Bike/gear damage compensation times....how long did yours take?

Out of curiousity i was wondering how long it has taken companies in the past to "make good your losses" after an accident. I am particularly interested in no fault accidents but any fault acidents would be valid as well.

Prior to my smidsy i was under the impression if fault was not disputed then it would all happen rather quickly, perhaps even in less than a month. My personal experience however has proven otherwise as its been approximately six weeks since my accident, where the other party has accepted full liability....but no sign of anything at present. It just stinks that i am over £4k out of pocket all in and that if i could physiclly ride a bike, then i would have to dip in to my savings to buy one!

So am i being impatient or does the insurance company need a rocket up its @rse?

Oh and hate as i do to knock threads OT, even if it is my own, but has anyone read the latest MCN regarding the ridiculous recovery/stroage fees charged by the police/their sub-contractors. I got stung by this to the tune of £200 just for recovery, £60 of which was because they used a winch to put it on the huge lorry as it "did not roll". ******** it doesnt....my recovery company moved it from the garage to my house no problem with one guy pushing it.

I had a no fault off in germany, i took 12 months to get all the money back. They did however pay everything (ferry, accomodation etc) in full which was nice.

My no fault, took about 4 weeks for the first cheque to arrive, whilst we argued about valuation. Then a further 4 weeks for 2 more cheques to arrive. and finally a forth cheque to cover my uninsured losses, ie helmet, leathers, boots, gloves. whilst the did initially argue about the value of these, The stuff was less than 1 week old. yes offed 6 days after buying a bike.

Compensation for injuries took 4 years and settled 3 days before the court date.

no fault, hit and run .... third party fire and theft insurance. So the claim was purely personal injury (got nothing for the bike and the gear)

2 and a half years ...... complete pants

I could do a rant but I wont waste my energy with angry vibes!

Comprehensive insurance
It's the only way!

Not at fault accident - Bikers Legal Defence gave me a hire bike for 4 weeks charged to the 3rd party (at BLD's risk) so not out of pocket there)
Comprehensive insurance settled within 6 weeks.
Uninsured losses & restoration of NCB to follow (hopefully) not holding my breath, but no rush anyway.
(No injury)

I've had one take three months and another take over 2 years It really does depend on the other parties insurance, even if they have agree to fault 100% they will still try and wrangle out of paying for kit/storage fees etc. You should get on to your own insurance and ask whats going on with your claim
